Relief, or rilievo, is a sculptural technique. The term relief is from the Latin verb levo, to raise. To create a sculpture in relief is to give the impression that the material has been raised. In our studio materials such as clay, plaster of Paris, ceramic paste, porcelain dust, fiber glass can be just added to raise the design from the background, The background surface can be – metal, plywood, fiberglass, glass, wood, and stone. Once the project is decided the surface is treated for inside or outside installation keeping the weather in mind. The design is then raised in layers and on drying and completion, the painting begins. This is done with enamels, oils, gold , silver or copper leafing or acrylics.
Here are some ways we have used this medium in our projects.
